About Flanagan Undertakers

Flanagan Undertakers was established in 1926 by Davy Flanagan in Castleplunkett, with his brother Jim later joining him in the business. What began as part of a busy family enterprise grew over the years into a trusted funeral service supporting generations of families with care, respect and professionalism.

In the early years, the Flanagan family were involved in many aspects of community life, working as pig farmers and general merchants while also operating a local dance hall alongside their undertaking business. Funeral directing quickly became an important part of the family’s work, with families placing their trust in the guidance and support they provided.

The business was later taken over by Jim’s son, James Flanagan, and his wife Rena, who continued to develop the funeral service while remaining closely connected to the local community. They still live and work from the funeral home in Castleplunkett today.

In 1996, James and Rena’s son Niall and his wife, also called Rena, expanded the business to Ballymoe following their marriage. They continue to live and run the funeral home there, carrying on the family tradition established a century ago.

Today, Flanagan Undertakers remains a family-run funeral service dedicated to supporting families with dignity, compassion and attention to detail. Every funeral is approached with professionalism, sensitivity and respect for the wishes of each family.
